New to all this...
Hello all!!!
I am working on a website, for cooking made simple. The recipes are simple, on a budget, semi-homemade and homemade. I wanted to show cooking on a budget is so easy, easy enough that you can make awesome recipes that your whole family will love. We like bold flavors, some may even think a few of the flavor mixes may be a little odd, but believe you me they work. I have a fiance and son who are picky about a few things, I am really picky. We also have different flavor profiles and food types that we each like that are different from each other. I also have a milk allergy, as well as a sensitive stomach that doesn't like some things. I also can't eat beef, yes I know I'm a Texan and I cant have beef, I'm either crazy or something is seriously wrong with me, but I still cook it for my boys and I do enjoy a taste or two from time to time. While doing this website (coming soon) I have learned so much I didn't know or have wondered about. Flavors, meat cuts, veggies, herbs, cooking wines these are just a few things I have learned about, there is so much information out there to learn and I am still learning as I go.
I have taken on SO much all at one time. I have decided that I was going to do the website, learn how to sew (still haven't done that), do a few crafts, go to garage sales and thrift stores to find little special finds, do couponing, grow my own herbs, grow a few veggie plants, and a few more. Well its been a little stressful but I did it to myself. I did a few things all ready. I will publish the different finds as we go, as well as the crafts that we get done.
I have decided to everything I can to save as much as I can, that's where the couponing and growing my own herbs and veggies comes in. A little bit on my back story about why I'm trying all I can to save on everything I can. I am on a very tight budget due to the fact that I am on disability and as soon as my monthly check comes in it is already gone to bills, so I am on food stamps to help make up the difference on my disability so I can eat. My fiance is a truck driver and every time we turn around his truck breaks down and the company he works for decides to fix it when its broke instead of doing maintenance on it. Why hasn't he found a new job you ask, well the last 4 companies he has worked for all did the same thing, so hes looking for another job, again UGH. So when hes out of a job we are even more strapped then we were when he was working. We have to support ourselves and our boys, so needless to say we are very strapped. But lets not dwell on it, lets do what we have to do and make sure we are all eating and saving money. Enough about that. :)
I was a medic and was married to my job, so I never really cooked much, usually boxed food. We cooked a lot of mac n cheese, sometimes with tuna, we also did a lot of hamburger helpers with turkey meat, my son didn't get much variety at all growing up. I tried to try something new on the weekends and tried to cook things like pork chops and chicken- grilled and baked. I did it as much as possible, but being married to my job meant I worked a lot, so i didn't have a lot of time, so I thought. Now I cook all the time and I love it. I have only been cooking for about 2 years. I watched the cooking channels for about a year and soaked up a lot of info. One day I turned to my other half and said I think I want to learn how to cook and I mean really cook, no more box dinners or dollar menu items. He said OK what ever you want to do and if it'll make you happy to cook then I'm all for it. Now 2 years later I turned to him again and said I want to make a cooking website and maybe a cookbook. He again said I'm all for it and Ill back you up all the way, he is behind me but not much of a help. hahaha. I am self taught from watching TV an reading recipes, on the net and in cookbooks. So, like I said I am only 2 years into this and I still have so much to learn. I do hope you enjoy what I am and will be sharing with you. :)
My website will cover a lot of things you can and some of it you will use in the grocery store and in the kitchen. I will be posting more on this blog, so come back and visit ya hear. hehe
